Andrea works in the Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion (DG EMPL) on the future of work and digitalization policies, focusing in particular on remote/hybrid work, the “right to disconnect”, algorithmic management, and youth employment (yes, there is a connection). He is also coordinating activities in DG EMPL for the European Year of Youth (2022). In 2020 and 2021, while still in the Directorate-General for Communication Networks, Content and Technology (CNECT) Andrea focused on the complex relationship between the digital and the green transitions, in particular how the digital sector can become itself and help other sectors become more environmentally sustainable. Hi is still very much interested in this area, but now more from a social sustainability perspective. Between 2014 and 2018 Andrea served as a EU diplomat and Counsellor for the Digital Economy at the Delegation of the European Union to the USA. He was the liaison between the EU and US stakeholders on policy, regulation and research activities related to the Internet and Information & Communication Technologies. Before joining the European Commission, Andrea was the Executive Director of the NEXA Research Center for Internet and Society of the Politechnic University of Turin; Technical Director of the Media Innovation Unit of the Chamber of Commerce of Florence; Technology Coordinator at the Centro Tempo Reale Research Centre for Contemporary Music; and a software developer / project manager for a number of multinational firms.
