The Ancient Greeks had the Agora and the Romans the Forum; in Amsterdam, we have De Rode Hoed. Set at Keizersgracht 102 in the heart of the city, this seventeenth-century building began life as Vrijburg, a clandestine Remonstrant church hidden behind a row of canal houses, enclosed on all four sides with no frontage onto any public street. As the largest and oldest hidden church of its kind in Amsterdam, it offered Remonstrants a safe haven for freedom of thought for centuries, and since reopening as a debate centre in 1990, De Rode Hoed has carried that tradition into the present as an independent podium for culture, debate and reflection, free from political or religious colour, where history and current affairs meet.
Its grand Oosterhuiszaal, with two balconies overlooking the stage, the original pulpit, a restored organ and vaulted ceilings that give the hall its outstanding acoustics, pairs traditional character with the latest technical facilities. Its unique canal-side location, distinctive atmosphere and generous capacity make it an ideal home for the Reshaping Work Conference 2026: a place for inspiring conversation and for shaping a future that remains rooted in its past.
Keizersgracht 102, 1015 CV Amsterdam
De Rode Hoed is in the centre of Amsterdam, a 12-minute walk from Central Station. Due to its central location, the venue is easily accessible by public transport: the second tram stop from Central Station, Nieuwezijds Kolk stop, offers access via tram 1,2,5,13 and 17. Tram 13 and 17 also stop at Westermarkt.
If you are coming from Schiphol Airport, the quickest would be to get a train (NS Sprinter or Intercity) to Amsterdam Centraal (Central Station). From there, you can walk or take a 2-stop tram to Nieuwezijds Kolk stop.
