Helen Schwenken

Biography

Helen Schwenken is Professor for migration and society at and Director of the Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies (IMIS), University of Osnabrück, Germany. She is part of the co-ordinating team of the global Research Network for Domestic Workers’ Rights (RN-DWR). Her areas of expertise are gender and migration, labour migration and social movement studies. She is currently working on projects on the transformation of refugee support practices in Germany and on the labour market integration of (women) refugees in Germany.  She is co-editor (with Helge Schwiertz) of the special issue Citizenship and Solidarity along Migratory Routes in Europe and the Americas (Citizenship Studies, 2020). She is currently working on an edited book on gendered refugee reception in Germany (forthcoming in 2021).
