Helena Verhuyck

Biography

Helena is a PhD researcher in law at the University of Antwerp, Belgium, and is passionate about how the digital economy reshapes work and how regulatory frameworks can support a fairer platform economy. Her research explores how the power of digital labour platforms can be better regulated to protect and empower platform workers – blending insights from labour law, contract law, and competition law. She also serves on the boards of Young BEDER – a network bringing together both academic & institutional experts on EU law – and of cooperative food delivery platform Bestellenbij, where she acts as a legal advisor. Additionally, Helena co-coordinates the Early Career Academics on Platform Alternatives (‘ECAPA’), an international network for sharing knowledge on alternative organisational forms in the digital economy. Outside academia, you can find her escaping reality through fantasy books, crafting, or treasure-hunting in thrift shops.
